Crystal singing pyramids are very fragile. They should only be struck with the mallet provided and gently at that. I prefer the suede mallet.
If you are provided a mallet of the acrylic type with a rubber coating, it should only be gently tapped with the rubber portion.
When you tap the pyramid, only do it once until the sound fades away because the tapping causes vibration through the pyramid that creates the sound and tapping it when it is already vibrating causes discordant vibration that puts stress on the fused quartz crystal.How to play singing crystal pyramids?
A crystal Pyramid has two frequencies, one that comes from the bars at the base of the pyramid and one that emits when the side bars of the pyramid are struck. The base bars have a lower tone than the side bars.
Gently tap one side of the pyramid. Allow the sound to dissipate. If you tap the pyramid with more force you will notice both the base tone and the side tone activating. But please be careful not to strike too hard, and these instruments are fragile.
You can also gently swing the pyramid from side to side, in a circular motion or give it a little spin after it is tapped and change the sound quite a bit.
